The Pond Monkeys played
their final band appearance by returning to one of the events
that helped launch their 7-year career. For the 7th
consecutive year, Pond Monkeys headlined the annual Fort Scott
Good Ol' Days Teen Dance.
The boys were in high spirits
after having graced the cover of the Fort Scott Tribune in a
feature article earlier in the day. The Tribune story,
written by staff reporter/photographer Kenny Felt, explained why
Pond Monkeys were disbanding, It also explained what each
of the boys planned to do in the future. Daniel plans to
depart for Nashville in late June, and sees himself ending up
with a large, tea-drinking woman in Lousiana. Derek
apparently plans to have a "normal life and a normal
job" by disappearing in Japan. Both Austin and Alex
plan to pursue music in the hopes of avoiding real jobs.
The article promised an energetic final show, and the boys did
not disappoint.
For nearly three hours the band
tore through original and cover material both old and new.
Throughout the set several guest musicians and fans joined the
band on stage. Kaylie Bernhardt joined the band on
"Blood Soaked" and returned with Quinton Cheney for
"Love In A Box." Trent Pruitt took over on
guitar during "First Comes Love" while Logan Payne and
Andrew Klonowski contributed vocals and cowbell,
respectively. Later in the set, Matt Trotter tackled Trent
on stage while several other audience members wandered across
the stage. Foreign exchange student Sebastian Nemcek, who
appears on Breathing Buildings, performed an encore of his album
introduction.
The Rich Kids kicked the
evening off with a high energy set. Due to scheduling
conflicts, only two-thirds of the kids were able to make
it.
